M.J.C ver_0.1: Up and running!

05-04-2009 00:56:32

We finally got it running! The M.J.C:
Mechanical Journeying Construct.
It took us some time to mess around with the servos, but after alot of tinkering and hacking we got it running. The chassis at written moment is made in Lego, and the wheels - well, they aren't to be discussed! We are going to make a new set tomorrow, so that it will run more smoothly.
I'm off now - pictures and video soon to come!

"I JUST LOOOVE AMAHI" - There ye go cpg ;)
No, I mean it this time. Amahi is great, it really is. And it (almost) works out-of-the-box, with no tinkering needed. It includes everything needed (almost), the only thing I missed was a robust UPnP Server. There is one connected to the Amahi project, but it's a bit dusty. I instead went with the lightweight geexbox ushare - which serves my music quickly and painlessly.
The most amazing thing about Amahi was, as said, not needing to configure everything yourself. E.g the VPN server which followed - it works perfectly to establish connection to the server from outside ones home network, and all I had to do was to download a client program - that really blew my mind, and it shows how complete Amahi really is! Even dedicated Windows users should consider installing Amahi on their home server, at least be course it's free ;)
It's brilliant.

Complete LHS wanted!

28-02-2009 22:28:49

It feels rather odd, doesn't it? Or is it just me? At the moment our home server is a customized Ubuntu Server edition with the wanted software, but none of it, except samba, has been, well, just working. It's a fine alternative to WHS, since WHS is Windows, and Windows has a tendency to break easy, which is a real world scenario - they wont even take the hit of a ball. So how come? At the moment I am playing around with Amahi to see if it could serve the needs, but where is the UPnP Server in that package? It only serves out music using the DAAP protocol, which isn't bad, but UPnP really is fantastic, and I would so much love to stream the huge music collection directly to our Argon iNet in the kitchen! MediaTomb, which I used together with our current Ubuntu setup, is not working out how I imagined, although it seemed the most "complete" UPnP Server. Maybe I didn't handle it with enough love, but honestly? Why can't someone make my day by completing a fully functional distribution with everything needed for the new age of digital media serving at home? And we all know that Linux is the way.

Norway, we salute you!

26-02-2009 17:07:09

At the moment I am having the most fantastic nostalgic 80's trip. A-Ha has been playing loudly the last few weeks, and wauw! It's just the way it's supposed to be! "Take on Me" and "The Sun Always Shines on T.V" completes the day, but the not that old album, "Analogue", also sneaked into my CurrentlyTopRoevhatHits playlist. I also found myself watching a documentary about the hit "Take on Me", and how A-Ha climbed the US top 100 chart back in '85.
So get your well placed butt over to your music collection and dig forth the old records - they will surely put a smile on your face.

"You win again, gravity!"

14-02-2009 20:43:23

(WARNING, SPELLING and/or GRAMMAR ERRORS AHEAD!!!)
It feels kinda sad when Futurama isn't airing more often these days. The new "90 minute" episodes are great, believe me, but the quality was way better in the smaller episodes. The humor was way more concentrated, and a laugh was never more than 10 seconds away. My favorite episode is clearly "Amazon women in the mood" from the third season. Mainly be course Zapp Brannigan has a major part in it, but it also represents Futurama in a nutshell. Cheesy comments, going from a normal scenario and ending up in life threatning trouble with the switch taking place allmost instantly. To return to the cheesy comments, one of the best in this episode is where Kiff, Fry and Zapp are revealed their sentence, which includes death by "snu-snu"(Snu-snu refering to, well - snu-snu?). Fry and Zapp can't quite figure out how to feel about it, since the snu-snu part is going to be great, but the death part is, on the other hand, not that nice. Kiff is scared to the bone, or well, he has no bones, but you get idea, and Zapp responds to Kiffs behavior with the most elegant and sophisticated line << "What are you, gay?". Now, I know it might not seem right to explain it, all I can say is:
"Baby, it will blow your mind"
This was merely a skin wound, of the total annihilation Futurama will perform.

Might I state...

04-02-2009 18:09:24

..That this really is great? Finally I am able to quickly post what I have on my mind. It might seem odd with these last few messages, but I will write something more... Complete, sooner or later.

Roevhat.dk:Post-a-Post System status: Up and running!

04-02-2009 16:03:25

It really is amazing. ASP used to be crawling with errors, but these last few things didn't require that much debugging at all. So now I am able to write new content, directly from the website - it really is a treat. Well, that really was everything for now - but stay fit, with the new code, I am bound to write more often!

In Google we trust

31-01-2009

We all need to be aware of bogus sites, but thanks to Google, most of them are found, and we are warned before entering. I, myself, was about to enter one of these malware infected sites the other day, but thank Google; I was alerted just in time. It seemed a bit odd, but I trusted the Search-Engine Giant, so from now on, I use Windows Live Search. If Google tells me a site might be infected, then I am staying away from it. You might want check out the screenshot I took, of me being advised not to enter the bogus site.

WONDER

30-01-2009

Yeah baby, Roevhat.dk is updated! It is now a fully functional RSS-feed, and I have customized the site with a blog-like touch. Also, new code has been added which should make it pretty easy for me to add new posts, but we will see how well it goes! All for now, I'll keep playing around with it.

Oracle: Google = World-Dominator in near future!

09-09-2008

I have seen the future, and not just the Matt Groening-future. I have seen Microsoft fall, fall and spiral down to the bottom, and a new champion will rise, a champion that started with a server built in Lego, and with every project in beta - Google. Google will conquer the world, and will start a new era involving weird designs, and productive solutions. How come? Well, Google recently released their newest product, a web browser. This was not unexpected, but seriously, we could barely see the end of the decade long battle-of-the-browsers and then Google comes in with yet another Beta-release and blurs the picture. The battle may not change direction, but if you ask me (not likely you will, since I don't know you), Google will probably drag some people along. it will take some time before they can compare their stats with Firefox and IE. For starters, they might want to kick some Opera butt. This was Joakim saying: Damn you Google! Instead of constantly producing new applications, how about finishing your work? Stay tuned for more... The Science of Sheep - and other Ping Pong-variants.

23-08-2008

Greetings stranger - you have just stumbled upon a treasure! A treasure greater than anything you have ever imagined. And hopefully, hopefully all in range of you will soon know about this mighty treasure.
The treasure is Roevhat.dk - and I want you to spread the word about us! Yeah, you heard me, you! So get up you lazy bloodhound, and notify all your co-workers, friends, family members (especially if you work for the mafia), and other lifeforms which you socialize with. If you think it is all about the money, think again! I just want my counter to go wild! I could try the old way, by adding more mindless content to the website - and giving it a polished look. But hell no! I will rather have you go out and make everyone take a peek.

The End-Summer Post

08-08-2008

My summer holiday is allmost over. It's sad - I could have used a few more weeks, since my trip to America took up so much time. Not that it was bad, no, not at all. But 3 weeks? That's like half my holiday!
And I had so many projects I could have used my time at. But you just have to choose, and I wouldn't spill a chance to go to America.
The trip was awesome - 4 days in NYC, then another flight to SF where a car was ready for us, as well as the freeway! We ended up in the City of Angels, after a lot of driving, sightseeing, and all those other things tourists do.
I started doing some more Python, and I also have our server to attend to - so my time is well used the next few weeks, which brings me to... School! I'm starting my new school year at Favrskov Gymnasium, and I certainly hope it's going to be great. For that, I recently bought my new Lenovo ThinkPad. It's only an R-series, but it suits my needs as a work/school computer - no fancy graphic/High End/Gaming PC for me, no thank you. The review will be up soon (Danish only), since I couldn't find many Danish reviews of it. Another great use of Roevhat.DK I say.

I think I will end it here - Have a nice summer, and enjoy it!

The Quest for Questing! - New MMO wanted

27-06-2008

I find myself in a troubled time. So many dilemmas are crawling up on me in these weeks. It's actually a bit frustrating when you don't know what to do. The first issue is as stated above in another of my very fine headlines: New MMO wanted! Which is just as true as paper is light (depends on your size, can't guarantee it if you are 1 inch tall, or if you live in some unreal gravity tube (You wish!)). This may not be as interesting as searching Google for insane things such as "The History of Slush Ice", "Darwinism" and "Table Tennis", but if you would please just stay fit for moment, ok? I have wanted to play a MMO again for awhile, but it's hard to find anything that beats the old World of Warcraft which I stopped with a year ago. The next issue is what laptop I should buy. ThinkPad X61s or just some cheap HP with a lot of fancy specs? iPod touch or a EEEpc? Arr! Life is tough with all these choices. To look on the bright side, I just finished my exams - and last but not least, I have customized my bike into a Roevhat.DK Vehicular Advertisement.

Meaningless Violence - The kids love it!

30-04-2008

The topic is set. Grand Theft Auto IV, the newest release in the astonishing sandbox series, which have been rewarded with several 10 out of 10's. On metacritics.com, Grand Theft Auto IV has a 99/100 score, based on 58 reviews from all over the world, and last time we saw such a marvelous score, was in 1998. But great scores aren't all that these car-jacking games have received over the past decade. Grand Theft Auto was one of the pioneers when it comes to freedom in videogames, but with freedom the ability to play a sociopathic murder also arrived. This resulted in a mass media discussion that has been going on for ages now. The topic was, if the violence that was implemented in the game had a serious effect on those who played it, mainly the children. Even though the games received 18+ ratings, the series has always been a favorite for the younger gamers. I don't know where to place myself in this discussion, as I think that the game should only be played by those who are able to handle the actions in the game, and be able to take it with a grain of salt - otherwise, if you don't know what is right and wrong, it could lead to misbehavior. Monkey see monkey do, this is one of the things we don't want to happen. Grand Theft Auto IV was released on 4/29, and it broke all videogame sales records.

The Monthly Post

25-02-2007

Yeah, it's bad. I haven't updated this site for a very very long time. Shame on me!Well, to cheer you folks up a bit, I have added.. Wait.. I haven't added anything at all!? Oh my.. Well, just watch Zoolander, or Blades of Glory, that should do it.I just finished my one-week-winter-holiday, and it was delightful. My dear friend Ulrik visited me from Friday and left, what was it? Wednesday? I believe so. We mainly used the time playing video games, and that leads on to the next fantastic event - The yearly ComputerC@fe Lan-Party - It didn't end in much gaming from my point of view, but that didn't matter at all. We did get to play Trivial Pursuit, the '84 edition, which is always side-splitting. The following games we did get to play:

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
Rise of Nations (Well, not me... Maximum 8 players my a**).
Rainbow Six: Vegas (Only 3 of us enjoyed this team play game).
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
And finally.. Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy.
